Threading is a brilliant activity for hand-eye coordination and fine motor skill development. By making incisions into a piece of cardboard – it makes the perfect threading board. You can thread pretty much anything but flowers make the most beautiful feathers for a bird/ flamingo.

‘He has purple prickles all over his back’ what better way to bring this family favourite to life! Try drawing/ printing a picture of the Gruffalo. Add some purple prickles to Q-tips/ tooth picks and get them to add the correct number of prickles to the Gruffalo’s back. Brilliant for counting and brilliant fun.

Is there a better way to experience and learn all about different colours? No way! The best way to learn is by crafting, making and doing. This is such a fun activity and doubles up as a great puppet show afterwards. Take some cardboard and draw some lion faces. Go on a nature hunt and find lots of different colours. Have fun sorting and sticking.

Collect a range of different size and coloured leaves. Bring them back home and add some googly eyes and faces to them. These new little leaf monsters can share their feelings with you. Can you add lots of different faces to make them all feel different things?

Collect a range of natural resources; sticks, pine cones, leaves, feathers, flowers etc. Using twine attach the object to a stick and dip it in some paint to create a beautiful masterpiece. What different textures or patterns do each of the natural resources make?

Make a selection of different foods out of playdough and place them all on a plate. Give your little one some children’s cutlery and prompt them to practise cutting their food. Teach how to use the chopping board and knife safely.

Cut three different size sheep out of cardboard and grab a range of different shaped white beans. Using school glue cover the carboard sheep in the different beans. How many beans are on each sheep? Which one has the most, which one has the least?

Cut different shapes out of cardboard and give each shape a mouth. Stick the shape to a box and supply your children with a range of foam shapes. Can you feed the shape alien with the correct shape? If you want to give this a go, head to the printables!
